KUNISADA III (ALSO KNOW AS BAIDO HOSAI) BIO
1848-1920


Original name was Takenouchi Hidehisa; also known as Utagawa Kunisada III, Kunimasu IV and Toyokuni IV.
He studied ukiyoe under Kunisada II. He used the name Kunimasu IV and Toyokuni IV; he used the name Kunimasu IV and Baido Hosai early in his life. He took the name Kunisada III in 1889; late in life he claimed to be Toyokuni IV but was in fact Toyokuni V. His prints include woodblock fashion plates, illustrations and Russo-Japanese War prints.
